Nunavut ("Our Land" in Inuktitut), was created on April 1, 1999 as a territory of Canada, comprising the eastern section of the Northwest Territories, including the magnetic North Pole. Iqaluit (4000 inhabitants), formerly called Frobisher Bay on Baffin Island, is the new capital of Nunavut. With daily jet service, Iqaluit is the link to the western world.
