The Jomsom Tour

 

Pokhara – Jomsom – Muktinath, and/or Marpha

 This is a tour that touches on everything the Himalayan spirit offers and can be accomplished by anyone.  It caters to the person who would like to see and to be in the high Himalayas but can’t partake in a big trekking excursion.  It provides an opportunity to get a feel for trekking on a small scale to experience the Himalayan world.  Ultimately, this tour also offers a customized plan for the adventurer who might not want and/or can’t trek at all a chance to have been in the high Himalayas by taking this flight from Pokhara and relaxing in Jomsom, enjoying the surrounding breathtaking mountain sites.

 

Day 1              Kathmandu arrival

                        Register at your native embassy

Check into ‘ACME Guest House’

                        Rest of the day free to recover from jet-lag

 

Day 2              Kathmandu sight seeing, including a visit to Bhaktapur or Patan

                        Afternoon free for shopping, exploring, and/or relaxing

                       

Day 3              Kathmandu to Pokhara (flight), (820m/2690 ft)

                        Check into Hotel Lakeside

Sight seeing, preparation for the trekking tour and/or trip to Jomsom, welcoming dinner

 

Day 4              Pokhara to Jomsom (flight), (2,710m/8890 ft)

                        Check into Hotel ‘Om’s Home’

Visit Museum and enjoy the experience of Tibetan culture

 

For those whose destination is Jomsom, you might want to spend a few days at your leisure, before returning to Pokhara.

 

Day 5              Jomsom

                        Acclimatization Day

Visit the Monastery at Thini, and the village of Somte

                        Add a your walk at your leisure and condition

 

Day 6              Jomsom to Jharkot (via Kagbeni), (3,550m/11640 ft)

                        Check into Hotel

Enjoy the fascinating old walled village with its Tibetan culture

 

Day 7              Jharkot to Muktinath, (3,800m/12460 ft)

                        Check into Hotel

 

Day 8              Muktinath

Pilgrimage center for Buddhists and Hindus which offers an unusual combination of earth, fire and water veneration

                       

Day 9              Muktinath to Jomsom

                        Check into Hotel ‘Om’s Home’

 

Day 10            Jomsom to Pokhara (flight)

                        Check into Hotel Lakeside

                        Enjoy rest of day relaxing and/or shopping

 

Day 11            Pokhara

                        Guided sight seeing to Monasteries and Temples

Afternoon opportunities to mingle and connect with the wonderful and friendly native people

                        Evening farewell dinner with Nepali-Cultural events

 

Day 12            Pokhara to Kathmandu  (flight)

                        Transfer to ACME Guest House

 

Another tour to suggest:

Jomsom – Marpha (see below) (instead or in addition to Muktinath)

Marpha, the village of Apple Orchard and several monasteries is an exciting place to visit and only 1-2 hours walk from Jomsom.

 

Trekking from Pokhara to Jomsom or from Jomson to Pokhara instead of flying:

 

Day 1              Pokhara to Nayapul (by Jeep or Bus)

                        Nayapul to Tirkhedhunga, (1525m/5000 ft)

 

Day 2              Tikedungha to Ghorepani (2775m/9100 ft)

Early morning hike to Poon Hill (3193m10470 ft) one of the best Himalayan viewpoints in Nepal

 

Day 3              Ghorepani to Tatopani (1200m/3930 ft)

Enjoy the best food on the trek with its famous hot springs by the river

 

Day 4              Tatopani to Kalopani (2560m/8400 ft)

Trek through the world’s deepest gorge in the Kali Gandaki valley with its magnificent mountain views

 

Day 5               Kalopani to Marpha (2665m/8740ft)

As you pass through the village of Khobang you may witness a stretch of incredible mountain views.  From here the landscape will change as you enter the drier and more desert-like country of the Himalayan watershed.  Marpha offers luxurious accommodations for this region.  It is also famous for it’s apple orchard and its growth of fruits and vegetables.

 

Day 6              Marpha to Jomsom (2713m/8900 ft)

Jomsom is the major center in the region with regular flights from and to Pokhara.

This is also the last Thakali village, those further north are inhabited by people of Tibetan descent.  (more info about Jomsom in Tour # I)
