The Annapurna Circuit Trek

 

This is the most popular trek in Nepal, and we have made it an exceptional and unusual experience.  As you encounter the world’s most impressive mountain views, you will also experience the life of native Tibetan/Nepali cultures, and have the opportunity to explore Nepal above and beyond the average trekking scene.

 

Day 1              Kathmandu arrival,register at your native Embassy, 

                        Check into the ACME Guest House in the heart of Thamel

                        Rest of the day free to recover from jet-lag!

 

Day 2              Kathmandu sight seeing, including a visit to Bhaktapur or Patan.

                        Afternoon free to explore on your own.

 

Day 3              Kathmandu to Pokhara (flight)

                        Check into Hotel Lakeside, preparation for the trekking tour, welcoming dinner

 

Day 4              Pokhara to Besi Sahar, (820m/2690ft) by bus or jeep

Begin trekking at Besi Sahar to Bahundanda, (1310m/4300ft)  As the trail drops, then  climbs you enter Khudi your first Gurung village (many of Nepal’s Gurkha soldiers are Gurungs).  After Khudi you will encounter marvelous views of Himalchuli and Ngadi Chuli.  At Bhulbhule (830m/2720 ft) you will enter the Annapurna  Conservation Area.

 

Day 5              Bahundanda to Chamje, (1,430m/4690ft)

The trail drops steeply then crosses the Marsyangdi Khola river on a suspension bridge to the stone village of Jagat, then through forest to Chamje with wonderful views of the river below..

 

Day 6              Chamje to Bargarchhap, (2,160m/7080 ft.)

The trail starts steadily uphill to Tal, your first village in the Manang district.  It continues up and down to Dharapani at 1890m/6200 ft. on through forest and Tibetan settlements to Bargarchhap with it’s flat-roofed stone houses of typical Tibetan design.

 

Day 7               Bargarchhap to Chame, (2630m/8630 ft.)

The trail, rough and rocky climbs to Lattemarang at 2360m/7740 ft, but then continues through forest near the river to Kotho at 2590m/8495 ft.  Coming into  Chame you will be fascinated by the incredible views of Annapurna II and enjoy the

 

Day 8              Chame to Pisang, (3,300m/10820ft.)

On your way to Pisang you will catch your breath at the first sight of the soaring Paungda Danda rock face.  The trail continues to climb about 100m/328 ft above the river.  Pisang offers spectacular full vies of Annapurna II and Pisang Peak.

 

Day 9               Pisang to Ngawal, (3657m/12000ft)

We are getting off the main trail and experience the spectacular high north-side route toward Manang.  The trail leads us through pine and juniper forest with spectacular views of Gangapurna and Annapurnas II & III.

 

Day 10             Ngawal to Manang, (3500m/11480ft.)

On our way to Manang we will visit the 900 year old Braga monastery .  The trail is now through the drier upper part of the Manang area.  The people herd yaks and raise crops and enjoy the trading business. 

Day 11             Acclimatization Day in Manang

                        

Day 12             Manang to Letdar, (4250m/13940 ft)

From here it’s an ascent of nearly 2000m to the Thorung La.  The trail climbs steadily through Tengi, and continuing along the Jarsang Khola valley.  The vegetation becomes steadily more sparse as you reach Letdar.  On this part of the journey be aware of high altitude problems and slow down if you must.

            

Day 13            Letdar to Thorung Phedi, (4420m/15000 ft)

Finally, you descend and cross the river at 4310m/14130 ft, and then climb up the Thorung Phedi at 4420m/15000 ft.  At the height of the season as many as 200Thorung La.  If you find yourself suffering from altitude sickness, you must retreat downhill.  Your tour guide will be prepared and check on every one’s conditions throughout the trip.

 

Day 14            Thorung Phedi to Muktinath, (3800m/12460 ft) (start the trek at 5 am)

Phedi means ‘foot of the hill’ and that’s where it is, at the foot of the 5416m/17760 ft Thorung La.  The altitude and snow can be problems.  When the pass is snow-covered it is often impossible to cross.  It takes about four to six hours to climb up to the pass, marked by chortens and prayer flags.  The effort is worthwhile as the view from the top is absolutely breathtaking and spiritually rewarding.  From the pass you have a tough 1600m/5250 ft descent to Muktinath.

 

Day 15           Acclimatization Day in Muktinath, (3802m/12470 ft)

Here you will experience a rich and thriving Tibetan Buddhist culture.  Muktinath is also a point of pilgrimage for Buddhists and Hindus where flame, water and air meet.  

Day 16            Muktinath to Jomsom, (2,713m/8900 ft)

In Jomsom visit the Monastery at Thini, the museum and neighboring towns with Tibetan shops

 

Or trek to Pokhara going from Muktinath to Marpha with a day rest in Marpha 

(see Tour I).  (Add another 7-8 days)

 

Day 17            Jomsom to Pokhara (flight)

Enjoy Pokhara while resting at your beautiful lakeside hotel

                       

Day 18            Pokhara

Morning sight seeing events, afternoon enjoy boating, shopping and explore the town

 

Day 19            Pokhara to Kathmandu

                        Transfer to ACME Guest House
